====================================== READ BEFORE USE: THESE BOXES TELL YOU HOW TO SEE TRAINS HERE AND LINKS TO OTHER INFORMATION ====================================== - This is a fully-working recreation of Ufton Level Crossing from 2014. The crossing was more commonly known as Ufton Nervet Level Crossing, but that was not its official name. This former level crossing is well-known for the collision between a car and HST that happened on 6 November 2004, which resulted in derailment and the death of 7 people. - This is a project that was created from an Alamy Stock Photo (a link to it is in Notes and Credits). The watermarks and motionless barriers (which were animated) were removed via the paint, copy and paste tools on scratch. - Want to know what this project does? Like my other projects, the timetable will automatically activate the crossing for a train pass that matches (or close to) what would happen at the crossing in real life (obviously not this one as it doesn't exist anymore). So I guess the answer to "What do I do?" is just "Wait", unless you want to make some trains run for yourself (read on). - All made from a picture (link below), this level crossing (and all of my other projects) is very closely-matched with the real thing, from sounds (although this is difficult as there are no videos from 2014), barrier positions, train types, and times of trains. - No trains for a bit? Want to make some trains run for yourself? Go into the code and click on the first sprite - a blank sprite called 'Test Blocks' - and follow the instructions displayed by comments. - The railway here is busy and there are trains rarely more than 10-15 minutes apart, so it is likely that one will run at the same time as yours, which can cause problems. It's just best to wait; that's part of the fun anyway. - Now you can click that flag and watch some trains (Or make some run)! Note that the only freight trains are Freightliner Class 66s hauling EWS coal hoppers, even though most of the freight trains were actually Hanson Class 59s with another type of coal hopper. I could not find an appropriate image of a Hanson '59. Fixnotes: 07/08/20 and 08/08/20: Improved Lights, fewer HST coaches, slower trains (they were much too fast to be realistic before) with speed controlled by variables, as used in the Ufton2005 project. New, more realistic Class 165/6 model. 09/08/20: The 'Night Mode' is added, as shown on previous projects. The sky and contrast of everything else go dark at a similar time to real life. 19/08/20: New, better-looking barriers and the 'double-arm' effect makes them look more 3D. 20/08/20: Minor changes to the HST, including size and sound. 05/01/21 - 07/01/21: Re-timetabling and changes to the train identifier system. The Class 165 and 166 are now separate sets, despite being identical in looks, but have different sounds and speeds. 08/01/21: Backdrop and sprites changed to a slightly different photograph. Added ability to 'successive closure'. 04/02/21: Changed alarm to the 2016 one because of the reduced wind noise. 16/12/22: I discovered another video of the crossing from 2015 which has a better alarm and HST sounds, so I recorded them and added them into the project.
Originally titled 'Something New', which refers to how the project was just an idea I was messing around with and it also references a song title.
