S̳h̳a̳t̳t̳e̳r̳e̳d̳ ̳S̳i̳l̳e̳n̳c̳e̳ Ringo had always hated Dark Spruce Woods with its tall, looming trees. It was a place where she felt scared. She was a small, scrawny, gray tabby cat with a fluffy tail and bright green eyes. Her friends saw her as a hyperactive, happy-go-lucky child. Once, she had given a toy she had won from a carnival game to a sobbing kid and helped him find his family which he had wandered away from. That's the sort of kitten she was. Ringo walked over to the window and reflected on her dark surroundings. The snow flurried like running wolves, intent on its grassy prey. Then she saw something in the distance, or rather someone. It was the figure of Caliber, a dark gray wolf with fur tinged blood red. He was a fearsome sight, with big fangs and sharp claws. Ringo gulped. He died in the car accident, she thought. He couldn’t have survived... could he? As Ringo stepped outside and Caliber came closer, she could see hatred burning within him. "I’ve come for revenge," Caliber growled, in an angry tone. He slammed his fist against Ringo's chest, causing her to stumble backwards. "I hate you, Ringo." Ringo looked back, even more scared and cowarded under his gaze. "Caliber, please leave," she whimpered. "Me? Leave?" He snorted. "After all that you have done to me, I cannot leave without knowing you have finally paid for what you’ve done." He creeped forward, baring his fangs. Ringo trembled. "What do you mean? I never did anything to cause you pain." He glared at her and hissed. "Lies! Everyone thought you were the only survivor in the crash. I survived but no one saved me. Why? They were too busy making sure YOU were okay!" He unsheathed his dagger-sharp claws as he snapped. "You got a doctor to heal you while I had pain! You got a new home while I lived in a ditch! You had a bed while I had to stay up in order not to be eliminated! You had an education while I only got to learn how to fight! You had desserts while I had to eat garbage! You got friends while I got beat up! You had everything while I. Had. NOTHING!" He sighed. "Now you’ll feel all the pain I felt." "Wha-" Before she could finish her thought, Caliber rushed forward and swung his long claws at her. She jumped back and ducked as he swiped again. She dodged his blows as the snow storm got worse. She was shivering, since she was only wearing an oversized sweater and black leggings, and found it harder to dodge his attacks. He lunged at her, claws aimed at her throat. Falling to the ground in order to survive, she escaped and darted away, heading into the Dark Spruce Woods. He whipped around and chased after her as the storm brewed overhead. After running for a while, Ringo stopped to catch her breath and looked around. Shadows danced around her, suffocating her in darkness. "You can’t hide now, can you?" Caliber’s voice surrounded her. "You thought you could escape, no?" The winds roared and tore at her body, stripping her of warmth. "Wrong." The darkness swooped closer. "You pathetic excuse of a being." Silence enveloped the woods, leaving everything quiet. She looked around and sighed, relieved he had left. The silence was shattered by a snarl. "You’ll die where you stand." He jumped at her, claws shining red under the moon. She fell on her knees and broke down, sobbing for all Caliber had gone through. "I’m sorry... I’m sorry... I’m sorry... I’m sorry... I’m sorry..." Her mantra cried on, wrung with pain for him. He stopped in his tracks. No one had told him sorry as they attacked him. No one had told him sorry as they mugged him. No one had told him sorry when they caused him pain. He stared at her as she quieted. The world was still as time stretched on, either for seconds or for years was everything quiet. "I never knew th-that you survived..." Her tears fell, melting the snow as they landed as she whispered on. "I didn’t know that you were living as badly as you said..." She looked up, her tear-stained face looking up at him. "I’m sorry... Do you... forgive m-me?" He looked at her, not knowing how to reply. He had come here so hell-bent on killing her, so angry at her for ruining his life, just for her to tell him sorry? After a few moments, he replied, "Yes." He walked over and hugged her. "I’m sorry too." She smiled, wiped away her tears, and whispered in his ear, "I forgive you." They embraced for a few minutes, the storm leaving. Caliber let go. "You wanna go get some ice cream?" "Yes please."
