So! If you've been following my profile ranting, you know how I feel about everything that's happened with the protests. But in case you weren't I revamped an old project :) So. First off, those officers must be convicted. I am grateful that they were charged, but appalled at how long it took (days of protests) for the government to do the right thing. The officer that killed George Floyd (I am not going to say his name because it doesn't deserve to be said) is scum. And I support the protests! Yeah, yeah, yeah "riots" and all that. What did y'all think Stonewall was? If your answer is "a gateway towards LGBTQIA+ rights, as well as days of riots" you are correct. Not only are most protesters peaceful, but that didn't work a few years ago. Remember how Kaepernick lost his job because he kneeled? That was peaceful and conservatives still lost their crap. Guys, most protesters were--are--peaceful. The majority of riots have been the result of police agitation or white people (who were evidently NOT there to support the movement). And a Target being vandalized is NOTHING compared to George Floyd's life, or the lives of protesters that have been lost due to police brutality. And I don't understand one bit how you can attack the protesters for being violent when policemen are using teargas and shooting rubber bullets at people's heads. We have bigger problems than a few broken windows at a Target that wouldn't sell milk to protesters. But the bigger problem--much bigger than the overall Scratch response that I've seen--is the government's. Now, you may know that I absolutely despise Trump. I have since October 2016 when I realized he would have no qualms about assaulting women--or, if I'd been ten years older, me. (Totally going to get reported for that.) But he's so much worse than that. He...he teargassed protesters so he could get a photo op. He's threatening to enact martial law, for god's sake! Do I need to tell y'all how BAD that is? Add that to his track record of racism (remember what he said about Haiti? The Central Park five?)...do you think he's going to make everything right? Also, remember those "anti-lockdown" protests that he SUPPORTED. With ARMED PEOPLE. The police didn't kill any of them, did they? The police didn't mace any little kids, like they did in my city a few days ago? If you condemn the protesters looking to put an end to police brutality and don't even mention the police, or the drastic difference from, like, a month ago? You have some serious work to do, and I sincerely hope you educate yourself. But until then you don't need to visit my profile, mkay? Reminder that I am a white girl! I do not intend to speak over Black voices and I encourage anyone and everyone who sees this to seek out firsthand accounts from protesters and read up on the BLM movement. Also, please remember to donate if possible, sign petitions, support Black-owned businesses, and never stop educating yourself.
