Update 1/25/2020: Guys?!?! Oh my gosh!! 1,245 miles?? 5% around the world??? That's halfway across the entire Atlantic Ocean!! D-0 and I are beside ourselves with gratitude towards you wonderful people. #TeamD-0 is strong because of you!! :) Update 1/21/2020: D-0 just wanted to let you all know that he appreciates your support from the bottom of his little robot heart <3 As of today, he has completed almost 50 miles of his trip, and he couldn't have done it without you!! He still has a long way to go, but he now knows that anything is possible with #teamD0 by his side <33 Remember D-0 from Episode IX of Star Wars? He has just started a new journey- he wants to circle the entire earth! All 24,901 miles of it. But he can't do it alone! He needs our help. So let's give him a hand, yeah? I mean, how could you possibly say no to such an adorable, polite robot?? And thanks to the beauty of cloud variables, we can all help him explore the earth together! Every time one of us clicks the right arrow key, that's one more step (or... roll?) for D-0! Curated on January 19th. Thank you @diglett123! :) - Credits - First credits go to my bois at Lucasfilm, of course. Art ✎ The D-0 drawing/animation is by me using a picture of D-0 as a reference. For the background, I used parts of "Free Jungle Asset Pack" by Jesse Munguia form itch.io as a base and then edited them. Music ♫ "Yoda's Theme," "Luke and Leia," "Parade of the Ewoks," and "Rey's Theme" from Lucasfilm Font ✒︎ "Coiny" (thumbnail font) and "Aldrich" (instructions font), both from Google Drawings. I tried my very best to use real calculations when making this project so that we can actually tell how far around the earth D-0 has gone. For those of you who are interested in that, I've included my notes and calculations below: After watching a video of D-0, I approximated his walking speed to be about that of a small dog, which is 1.5 miles/hour. I then converted that to 2.2 feet/second. Next, I set up a variable in this project that keeps track of how many times I press the right arrow key, then held the key down for approximately 10 seconds and used both of those measurements to calculate the number of times the right arrow key can be "clicked" in a second when it is held down (the quotient being 11.48 clicks/second). Next I divided D-0's speed of 2.2 feet/second by the 11.48 clicks/second and found that each right arrow click allows D-0 to travel 0.19 feet. I then set up a variable that keeps track of and displays D-0's total distance in feet and then set up some dynamic calculations with more variables so that his distance can be displayed in meters, miles, and as the percentage of the journey completed as well. Also, I didn't end up using this, but according to Wookieepedia, D-0 is 0.46 meters tall (1.5 feet, for my American, Liberian, and Myanma buds). He so smol and adorable :) Anyway, thanks so much for reading this far! If you did, you probably have an interest in math or coding, so please feel free to comment any suggestions that would make my calculations or coding better! Thanks! (But of course, please feel free to comment or make suggestions whether you're interested in that stuff or not lol) Also guys, I remade the thumbnail like 10 times and I'm still not entirely happy with it, but I think this is about as good as it's gonna get. So please don't let me touch it anymore- if you see the thumbnail change again, call me out on it lol xD
