During World War I, the United States Marine Corps deployed the 4th Marine Brigade (The USMC did not have permanent divisions until 1941) to France as part of the American Expeditionary Force. They served from June 1917 until the November 1918 Armistice. Marine Corps lore was written during the Battle of Belleau Wood, when Marines in early June 1918 advanced against the Germans and engaged in vicious hand-to-hand fighting while sustaining high casualties. This instance earned the Marines the nickname of "Teufel Hunden" by the Germans. This nickname is highly disputed, as it's not correct in German, and even the USMC has no documentation of this nickname, but it has already cemented itself in history. If you've seen my previous project based on the WW1 USMC back in 2020, you can see a lot of differences from then to now. I fixed up the uniform and webgear. I believe the biggest change I've made was changing out the M1917 Enfield to the M1903 Springfield because it turns out the Enfield was more popular with army units, whereas the Marines pretty much only used the Springfield rifle during WW1. I was originally going to make a similar project to the 101st ABN back in 2020 when that was originally published, but I never got around to doing it, so I fixed up what incomplete model I had, and here it is. I believe the wait is well worth it because I have higher expectations now and more knowledge at my disposal. Inspired by Day of Infamy and Verdun The Marines' Hymn - Bob Sharples
