I hear you. On May 25, 2020 45 year old George Floyd was killed after an officer kept his knee on his neck for almost nine minutes while he was laying face down and handcuffed in the streets. What happened to him was awful and brutal and wrong. Rest in Peace, George Floyd. To see the full story, the New York Times has an article as well as a video. I didn't link it because scratch may take my tribute down because of the video that accompanies the article, which leads me to the next thing I'm going to say, which is that I myself haven't watched the video yet. I don't know how violent it is, so a warning on that. My condolences to the family. I hope the world knows that there are good police officers out there, marching side by side with the protesters. There are officers protecting and showing their support for justice! This racism and injustice must stop. We HAVE to be the generation who ends it, ends this brutality, and injustice in general, so little kids off all backgrounds and races and identities and genders can walk the streets safely. This show of brutality and violence made me greatly furious and upset. We need to bring justice to the police force-the people that we are supposed to trust to keep us safe. Now, I am white and privileged, so I have not gone through the struggles and battles that my colored friends and peers have gone through because of their race. But I will firmly stand against this injustice. It cannot and will not be tolerated. Another side note: While I am a huge supporter of the peaceful protests, I do not condone the violent protests that include looting and such. Please stay safe and know that violence is not the best way to show your support. That is what THEY chose to do, the officers who killed him, (and so many other African American citizens) and we must be better than that. And remember to stay safe, wear a mask, and social distance. We are still in a pandemic Rest In Peace <3
