--------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Tiger Queen: Name: Tiger Queen || Gender: Female || Personality: fierce, || Kin: Gazelle (sister), Father, Mother || Likes: fighting, being alone, her one bit of jewelry || Dislikes: lots of cats around her, being a queen, her sister “Oh, Tiger!” sings my stupid sister, Gazelle. “What?” I hiss, turning around. “Father wants you in the throne room or something. I wasn’t paying attention,” she says, batting her eyelashes. I sigh and reluctantly pad to the throne room. My father lounges on his throne, his crown sitting crookedly on his head. As soon as he sees me, he sits up. “Ah, Tiger! My dear daughter,” he smiles welcomingly. I nod. “Why am I here?” “Well, my daughter. I have wonderful news!” This isn’t uncommon. Everything is wonderful news my father’s mind. I nod again, waiting. “Well,” he paused, smiling in a way that makes me nervous. “We’ve found a mate for you!” ‘Oh god.’ I think, trying to make my expression dignified. I manage to speak. “W-who?” “Oh, not a very well-known king. Small kingdom too, but it was the best we could find for you,” he says ‘you’ like it’s an insult. Knowing Father, it probably is. I nod. “When will I leave?” “Oh, tomorrow,” he says dismissively. “Your mother is getting your stuff packed.” I nod quickly and leave. Now I live in the palace of King Lion. My title is Queen Tiger, which I hate. Being a princess was bad enough, but now, cats expect me to be rude, selfish, and vain. The palace workers scurry around me as if I’d claw them whenever they did something I didn’t like. My mate adorns me with jewelry, sometimes I have so much that I can barely walk. But one day, I snap. Don’t ask me what happened, I don’t remember exactly. I’ve just had enough. That night, I pack what I need, money, food stolen from the kitchen, plenty of water, and a cloak. I hesitate before taking some jewelry. It was my favorite, given to me by my mother before I left. Little orange jewels set into gold. My bag is a little heavy, but the food and water I eat will make it lighter. I quietly slip out of the palace and into the kingdom. I’m not sure if I’ve ever been out here before, it all looks so new. I know I can’t stay in this kingdom though, with my recognizable striped pelt. I choose a direction and walk. I reach my destination, a kingdom that nobody knows about. I try to find work, something to do, some way to earn money. One cat approaches me, asking if I can fight. I nod, and he asks me if I can guard his chickens that night. I stay up all night, listening. The only thing that comes is a small fox which I quickly scare off. The chickens were all safe in the morning. Word gets around that I protect livestock from foxes and wolves and soon I have many jobs to choose from. I don’t want any of them. I want the freedom to do what I like. Again, I sneak out in the dead of night. I live in a small den in a forest now. This land belongs to nobody but me. I can fight freely and live freely as myself. There are stories about me, I’m told about them by travelers. Tiger Queen, they say. Tiger Queen, protector of all, fiercest tiger to ever live. Me. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
