The Battle of Gettysburg was the biggest battle in the Civil War, but did you know that this massive battle happened by accident. Two armies, one Confederate and one Union, were both moving troops when they ran into each other. They started shooting at the other army and the battle began. This battle kept escalating when both sides called for reinforcements. The battle kept going until both armies were exhausted from troops and supplies. This battle was very close. The Confederates almost won, but the Union took the victory due to a terrain advantage.
