.✫*゚・゚。.☆.*。・゚✫*..✫*゚・゚。.☆.*。・゚✫*. easy tips for improving your art!! .✫*゚・゚。.☆.*。・゚✫*..✫*゚・゚。.☆.*。・゚✫*. ✧ hello everyone!! this is a pouncing cat (well @-CinnamonSticks- on scratch, you can call me either)!! welcome back to another project, and thanks for dropping by today!! every view is appreciated!! :D ✧ i always do the side-notes about the not-amazing quality because of the canvas size and the watermark being pouncing because i go by that on every other website-- so instead of keeping it long i just kept it short to that lolol. :D ✧ but i actually do have another side note, i just thought ahh-- all of these tips are not meant to be mean or offensive at all. while some may sound harsher than others, all of these i have gone through myself, and as an artist, have not taken them personally or in the wrong way. plus, the chances of you looking at this project without either being an artist or looking to improve your art is slim. XD .✫*゚・゚。.☆.*。・゚✫*..✫*゚・゚。.☆.*。・゚✫*. 1. developing a style this is honestly the hardest thing on this list, especially because it takes the longest amount of time and usually equates for a lot of major changes in your art. if you draw something that isn't in a style you would label as your own, it will be very difficult to improve. (i.e. you are really inspired by only a single artist's style, and basically copy that but implement your own characters into it. not only may you run into issues of people calling you out for copying, but you will find it very hard to improve since it isn't truly your own definition of your art style.) once you find a style you like, however, or simply are known for, it's really easy to make small tweaks or larger ones that improve the overall composition of that style!! 2. the ol' flip-i-dee-doo this is something i didn't use to do, and finally doing this step probably has caused me the most improvement for my art overall in the past months. if you are drawing digitally, you should frequently flip the canvas horizontally. despite how odd it may sound, it really helps you see the mistakes. to sum up the science, flipping the canvas for a few seconds helps you recognize your mistakes. when your canvas is facing one direction too long, you get used to all of the simple mistakes. briefly flipping to identify these really helps!! if you are using traditional mediums, before you complete your lineart/coloring, take a picture of your sketch on a device. under the cropping section of the standard editor, flip the image horizontally. you get the same effect, essentially, its just you aren't actually able to flip the image and draw on the opposite side in real life. XD
3. redrawing your older art while some people try to do this on an annual basis, others don't really think to do it. i used to not worry about redraws, because i always wanted to try something new, and not feel like i was repeating what i had done before. but i have started to realize as i progress further into my art, redraws are actually a really great way to exercise improvement, namely because you can see what you have learned about your art, your program, your character, etc. throughout the time between both drawings. for this project, i redrew a digital doodle of kai i really loved when i made it. comparing the two side by side, i notice i have learned to add textures and patterns to clothing, learned how to blend in blush and redness to the skin, done some improvement with lighting, and even have defined my eye style and mouth style more. overall, redraws are great, as they help to boost up your confidence in your creations to visually show your improvement. and that's about it!! please let me know if you have questions, i wasn't really sure what else to put, so this is it for now. but, i may add some more tips later if i think of some!! ':D i hope you have enjoyed, and since you made it this far, here is the QOTP (question of the project)!! Q. do you know who kai (the character in the art) is?? if so, do you think my story "rise to the throne" did justice to him?? or perhaps would you have liked to see his fate be different?? if you don't know what i am talking about, maybe read the first chapter of this, first!! -- https://toyhou.se/~literature/14877.rise-to-the-throne .✫*゚・゚。.☆.*。・゚✫*..✫*゚・゚。.☆.*。・゚✫*. credits music -- everything moves -- bronze radio return, thanks to @starclancats art -- @-CinnamonSticks- (pouncing) character -- @-CinnamonSticks- (pouncing) fonts -- both from fontspace!! i used the "don't click me" and the "dragons and chickens" fonts!! .✫*゚・゚。.☆.*。・゚✫*..✫*゚・゚。.☆.*。・゚✫*.
