This is my story for the writing contest. It is 258 words. It is also very tragic, so I hope you enjoy! ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ A cry of pain shattered the calm night. Sandfluffy's eyes shot open. She got up quickly and raced out into the cold night. She saw a cluster of cats gathered around her sister, Echowhisper, a dark gray she-cat with white spots. Sandflurry pushed her way through the crowd and knelt beside Echowhisper. A deep gash ran down Echowhisper's side. Blood poured out of the fresh wound, soaking the sandy ground. Sandflurry knew immediately that it had been made by another warrior. "Get me some cobwebs!" Sandflurry shouted. Moments later, cats raced back to her with wads of the sticky white stuff between their jaws. Sandflurry desperately pressed the cobweb on Echowhisper's wounds. The blood soaked through them fast. She wasn't going to make it! Sandflurry continued to press the cobweb on her side. She met Echowhisper's clouding gaze. "S . . . Sandflurry," Echowhisper said in a soft voice. "It's okay. StarClan's . . . calling me." "No! I won't let you die! Not yet!" Sandflurry cried. "I can't lose you!" "It's okay, Sandflurry," Echowhisper said. "I will always be with you." She coiled her tail with Sandflurry's and closed her eyes. Her body grew still. She was gone. Sandflurry stared at the lifeless body of her sister in horror. "No," she whispered, pressing her muzzle into Echowhisper's side. "No." The elders came forward and began to rearrange Echowhisper's body for the vigil. When they were done, cats from the rest of her clan came forward to say their goodbyes. Sandflurry lay down and curled up next to her sister for the last time.
