NOTES Jeff and I went for a walk at dusk the other evening. As we were walking down Vassar Street near MIT, we noticed an increasingly intense chattering of birds. Oddly, it was all centered in one tree. We couldn't see any of the birds, but it was delightfully raucous in sound and in movement. I wanted to model the experience of being near the tree. But actually creating it was an emotional journey, friends! I basically made no progress for two hours, then it started coming together! The code is not very elegant—tons of redundant duplication across the parts of the tree. But I decided to embrace the Richard Feynman attitude: "What is the best method to obtain the solution to a problem? The answer is, any way that works." Optimization can be an opportunity for another day. :) CREDITS * The tree is from the Scratch image library. * The audio was recorded on @jsh's phone.
