The word IF made me wonder how children visualize long term goals. Questions like 'what if I saved $10 a week', 'what if I read for 30 minutes a day' etc can be really hard to imagine when you are young, yet studies show that the cumulative effect of daily actions can be very significant over time. Initially I was going to do an expert mode to work out when you would have accumulated your 10,000 hours at a skill, and maybe a health mode to see what the benefits of sleep / water / exercise could be on life expectancy. It turns out modelling compound interest in Scratch is challenging enough and time is scarce! What I have learned today: It would be useful to have a block to calculate exponents in Scratch. Sometimes Scratch might not be the best tool for a task ...hello spreadsheets! But despite that it's been fun to make this. (If you have read this far, my assumed rate of interest is 3% p.a., compounding monthly.)
