The Foxes. The porch light flickers on shining and bright, Revealing the secret goings on at night. Bats and badgers, Owls and mice, None of these can catch my eye. But a solitary fox stands fearless, Their coat sleek and red, Like an animal toy soldier, With their small ruby heads. Head cocked, ears bent, Staring back at me calm and content. All the while waiting for their partner to come Back from their leafy bed. The partner runs back, I see them together, A fleeting glimpse of their love shows, Before they take flight across the road. Foxes are scavengers, Foraging all night, But they hate being caught By the flicker of the porch light.
