~+~CHAPTER THREE~+~ "Hello, Snake." hisses Adder. "I was beginning to think you were never going to return." Snake says smoothly. "I bet you wish I hadn't." Though all seems calm, Desert can feel the tension between the two cats was so taunt, he could snap it with one of his dull claws. Desert jumps between them and spreads his wings. "Any chance I can stop this argument before it starts?" he asks. "Back off, Desert!" both cats hiss in unison. "Oh. Okay. I'll just . . . sit over here then . . ." Storm and Thistle jump up. "Over here, Desert! Come sit with us!" The tan-and-orange tom smiles and pads over to the kits. As he sits down next to them, he hears the kit's conversation. "This is SO COOL!" Thistle whispers loudly. "We're sitting next to a COOL FISHER!" Desert shuffles his paws and squares his shoulders. 'That's me. The cool fisher.' he thinks. Storm nods as if she's not listening to her brothers rants. Desert follows her gaze. It's trained on her mother and Snake, who are glaring at each other like hungry vultures. "Why DID you come home? Everyone here knows what you did. We'd be better off without you snivelling company." growls Snake. “I know what you’re trying to do.” “So what?” Snake snaps. “You betrayed us.” "Well, if I had gotten away with it, like YOU did, I would have been welcomed as a hero! Like YOU!" "For the LAST TIME! I. Did. Not. FOLLOW HER!" "You can deny it all you want, Snake, but we both know you did." snaps Adder. "Lies! Only you followed the Betrayer! Why would I ever follow her?" growls Snake. "For everyone who saw through YOUR lies, it was obvious!" exclaims Adder. "You AGREED with her! You thought you could overthrow the Queen! I bet you even thought you could become king." "That’s not true! Why would I even WANT to be king?! I'm no traitor! You are and you proved that the day you left me dying!" yowls Snake. Adder looks down, her tail lashing. "It wasn't my decision to make." she mumbles. "If you REALLY cared about your family, you would have MADE it your decision to make!" hisses Snake. "Look, I'm sorry, okay?" Snake snorts. "Like I should believe YOU." he snaps. "You should have never returned. I wish I never had to see you sorry excuse of a muzzle again. So does the whole village. Why don't you do us all a favor and leave."
