Sometimes you see an OC and think, "I really like this character, especially her boots! I think I'll use this boot design on my OC." This is usually ok, because you're only slightly inspiring off of an OC. However, there are some people who only slightly change someone else's character, and claims it as their own. Today, I'm going to explain why this sort of inspiration is wrong. First of all, it's a form of plagiarism. Have you ever seen a bootleg toy? More often than not, fake toys are only slightly different to the real deal. Guess what? It's illegal to manufacture these products. Although it's not technically illegal to heavily inspire off of an OC, it's still very disrespectful. Secondly, it shows people how uncreative you are. Wouldn't you rather be well known for creating original things then for being an uncreative thief. Finally, it shows complete and utter disrespect toward the artist. You may think that it shows the artist how much you like an OC, but it doesn't. "What you are doing is straight up criminal, so just try and be original."
