Chapter 6: Regaining Consciousness Silver sat quietly by Channa’s bedside, even for a hedgehog with almost white fur, he looked very pale ‘please wake up...’ he thought to himself. Sonic watched him with a grave expression on his face “Poor guy, I think he’s taking it harder than everyone else.” Shadow shot him an angry look “And you’re acting like nothing happened”. “Hey!” Sonic exclaimed “I’ll-” Espio gasped and pointed to Channa “Look guys, she’s waking up!” The female hedgehog slowly opened her eyes “You.... you guys... what happened?” Silver hugged his cousin “M-Mephiles hit you with his chaos spear... You got hurt pretty bad! And I... I... I thought I was going to lose you!” He cried. Channa hugged the male hedgehog back “Sorry to... scare you like that...” she said, smiling weakly. “I’m just glad... that you’re okay!” Silver said between sobs. “Were you worried about me Shadow?” Channa asked in a teasing tone. Shadow rolled his eyes “I knew you’d be okay”. Blaze smiled, she was happy that everything turned out just fine “I’m leaving now guys” she said “Let me know if you ever need me”. Silver shook Blaze’s hand “Thanks for helping Channa”. The purple cat shook his hand back “It was nothing. I’ll see all of you guys later”. “My feet are tired!” Glacier complained “And it’s so humid and nasty out here!” Mephiles sighed “Why don’t you turn back then? You’re of no use to me if that’s how you’re going to act”. The female cat huffed, “I’m useful! You’ve got some nerve insulting me like that!” Mephiles chuckled “I can do much more than that... very well then. I suppose I could allow you to tag along for a little while longer”. The cat hissed in reply ‘I don’t need his permission to do anything. But it’s best to stick with him until I can find out why he’s so strong’. Shadow crossed his arms across his chest “What are we going to do about Mephiles?” he asked. Channa frowned “I’m not sure. Nobody saw where he went after the battle?” The room fell silent for a few moments. “No” Espio replied gravely “It was like he vanished into thin air.” Shadow stormed out of the room, slamming the door behind him. “Whoa, what’s his problem?” Sonic asked. “I... I don’t know. But I’ll go check on him, Channa replied slipping on her thin jacket. She rushed outside and saw Shadow sitting down on the swinging bench. “Is everything okay?”
