Wet Dry World is a simulation of the human brain and its functions, but not in the traditional sense. It's kinda like how you see the calculators or computers made in Mario Maker. It's functions have to do with the water levels rising and falling. This ties in to why there is a brain diagram hidden in WDW, that way the devs could have a reference point, and why WDW has this negative emotional aura around it, it's freaking conscious. It's a gosh-dang brain. >does the brain even function? Oh, it functions alright. The tide stimulates the brain, similar to the electrical charges that send messages to your brain. It has to do with the level structure. Wet Dry World just feels... off. Like it was a beta test level that they haphazardly threw together at the very last minute. But the truth is, the whole level was a gosh danged experiment with simulating a brain. That's why the level structure feels so off. The enemies might have something to do with it, too, but I can't think of what the enemies could do to help stimulate the brain. It works slowly, but it freaking works. I have a couple theories about the purpose of the enemies ⠀ They could be there to make it seem more like a regular level, they often help traverse the area a bit easier in-game. Not necessarily a part of the brain but it would also seem pretty suspicious if there were no enemies. ⠀ Maybe they're manifestations of the thoughts, memories or feelings of the brain (we know that other manifestations can appear elsewhere so it wouldn't be too much of a stretch if these were something similar) ⠀ It could also be a side affect of the personalization, we all expect enemies to be there, so they materialize.
