Chapter 8: A new place. Channa opened her eyes slightly 'Where... am I?' she thought to herself. She felt something crunchy under her, it was cold, and didn't feel anything like grass. She kept her eyes closed for a few more seconds, hoping it was just a dream. When she finally realized that it wasn't, she pulled her jacket closer, snuggling into it to keep warm. Her teal tank top wasn't exactly the best thing to wear in a cooler climate. "C-Channa...?" she heard Shadow call out, his voice was shaky. "Shadow?" Channa turned around to face him. He was covered up to his waist with white glittering snow. In fact the entire area was blanketed with it, "Why is it snowing like this in the middle of Autumn?" he asked rubbing his gloved hands together to keep warm. "I don't know" she replied glancing up at the clouded gray sky "Is that everyone else over there?" Sonic, Silver, and Espio were also covered in snow, all three shivered like mad. Shadow spotted a nearby cave "We should rest in there, I'll get a few sticks to light us a fire until we can figure something out." Everyone shuffled into the entrance of the cavern, and soon they had warmed up. "Looks like Mephiles' machine opened a portal" Sonic said gruffly "and now we're stranded here, in the middle of nowhere." "We may not be too far from civilization" Espio responded rubbing his hands together. A twig outside snapped. "W-what was that?" Silver questioned. He moved closer to the exit of the cave he glimpsed out, and his mouth hung wide open. "Who's out there?" his cousin asked anxiously. Channa was easily frightened, especially by anything that was a threat to her or her friends. "It's... Mephiles..." he replied gravely "and Glacier." "Well, what are they saying!?" Sonic demanded. Glacier wiped some snow off of her outfit, "How did we end up here?" she asked. Mephiles stared at his fists "It was only supposed to work on them... not bring us here as well." "What are you talking about!?" she asked angrily. "This is sad. Do I have to explain everything?" he sighed shaking his head, "The device was supposed to bring the hedgehogs and their chameleon friend to this world, but not us. We should be in mobius right now searching for... well.... I can't tell you just yet." "Gee that's a great explanation" the baby blue cat remarked sarcastically, "Hey... it that a fire over there?" she glanced in the direction of the cave. Silver's heart was racing "Uhhh.... guys? I think they're onto us..." Shadow put out the fire by stamping on it, and then led them a little deeper into the cave, not to close to the exit but not too far from the light. Mephiles stepped into the cavern with Glacier close behind, he observed it until he came to where the fire had once been. He scoffed "Look, smoke. This fire was recently put out, meaning whoever lit it isn't too far." Glacier nodded quietly and scanned the cave with her eyes, "Do you think it was those pesky hedgehogs?" "Most likely..." Channa was breathing heavily, she was hiding behind a large rock and Mephiles was getting closer and closer. He was three inches away, with his back turned so he wasn't able to see her yet. Mephiles bumped into the rock and turned around to face it. Espio turned the color of stone and stood in front of Channa, just before Mephiles saw her, "Hmmm... thought...." the dark hedgehog uttered before walking away. "They must've left" Glacier commented "Let's get out of here." The two villains left the cavern, and Channa let out a sigh of relief "Thanks, Esps." "It was nothing" the purple chameleon replied changing back to his regular color. Sonic tripped over a rock and fell on top of a twig. SNAP! "Uh-oh...heh" he said in a hushed tone. "What was that?" Mephiles asked turning to face the cave.
