We also secure the future for our children.” --Wangari Maathai Wangari Maathai was a social, environmental, and political activist. She won the Nobel Peace Prize in 2004, making her the first African woman to win the prize. She started the Green Belt Movement and planted over 30 million trees to alleviate poverty in Kenya and prevent deforestation. This organization has now planted over 50 million trees!
