Chapter 5: Over the next few months, Asia’s life went on as normal. She had pretty much totally forgotten about the strange man. Yes, Noah was right. Life was easier without worrying about that stuff. Asia and Noah entered their Junior years of high school that fall, and life was back to the usual again. Life was good. What need did she have for God? She had everything she wanted. She felt complete… didn’t she? Asia grabbed her books for next period out of her locker and ran to meet up with Noah for lunch. As she stepped into the cafeteria, she was unpleasantly aware of the annoying, yet ever present bustling flow of kids in and out of the lunchroom. She grabbed her food and began searching for Noah. After what felt like an agonizingly long two minutes, she finally found him. He was sitting across from a girl whom Asia didn’t know. She was gorgeous. She had wavy blonde hair, bright blue eyes, she was thin, and wore a blue blouse that matched her eyes. She had on black jeans and some pink slip on shoes to go with her jeans. He was smiling… She wondered at the strange sudden twinge of jealousy she felt at the sight of it. As she drew closer she quickly shoved the thought away and put on a cheesy grin. “Hi, Noah… Who’s your friend?” She questioned. “Hey Asia! This is Allyssa. We have English class together.” He replied. With a little too much excitement. Asia thought. “Ahuh…” Asia replied with her right eyebrow raised ever so slightly. “Nice to meet you… Allyssa. I’m Noah’s best friend, Asia.” She said a bit too sweetly as she stuck out her hand to Allyssa. ~~~~~~~~ “I don’t like her.” Asia said as soon as they left the school. “Don’t like who?” Noah asked, perplexed. “Allyssa! She’s so fake!” Asia whined. “What makes you say that?” Noah asked, looking intrigued. “The way she talks, her smile… I don’t know. She just looks fake to me.” Asia replied with a shrug. “Well, I happen to think she is a very nice and genuine girl.” Noah replied, amused. That only fired Asia up even more. “Well you don’t know anything! I’ll see you later!” Asia huffed as she stormed off. ~~~~~~~~~ Noah stood there for a moment, stunned. He chuckled to himself. His cousin, Allyssa, had just been transferred to their school district and didn’t know anyone yet. Noah was trying to make his cousin feel welcome by letting her hang out with him. Apparently, Asia had come to the wrong conclusion.... Whatever that conclusion was. He chuckled to himself again as he set off toward home. But the thought still lingered in the back of his mind. Why was Asia so upset about seeing him sitting with Allyssa? It was uncharacteristic for Asia to get so fired up so quickly. Later that evening, Noah decided to invite Asia to go for a trail ride with him the next day. He hoped he could calm her temper down. He laughed. And she thought that he had a bad temper. He dialed her number on his phone. When she picked up, he asked if she wanted to go with him. “Well, I suppose I could pencil you in.” She huffed. “Great! See you tomorrow!” Noah chirped. “Yeah, yeah.” Asia said as she hung up. End of Chapter 5
