*Still needs some work! A few odd bugs to hunt down. You will be modeling addition and subtraction of integers with a hot air balloon which rises and falls as you add or let out more hot air or add* or remove some ballast. Each student should all answer the questions on their handout (or the paper on which you will label and answer the questions, or the Google Form, depending on what instructions your teacher gives you). You will be using this simulation to see how to model signed integers and their addition and subtraction. For each trip you will give the Hot AIr Balloon your instructions by pressing the four buttons corresponding to - more hot air - let out air - more ballast - less ballast. These instructions are stored in a list. Press GO once you have entered all the instructions representing the expression you are modeling to have the Hot Air Balloon follow them. To reset everything, including clearing the list, click "Reset". To delete your last entry in the list of instructions, press "Delete last" * Teleportation is a technology that exists in this far-off world! NOTE: The Ballon must start at the origin (zero). To move it to the start position press "Home".
This Hot Air Balloon model of integer addition and subtraction is based on my very first project, the virtual Bee Bot activity I created as a virtual alternative of the real-life Bee Bot activity created with Patrick B and Anthony R at the i.lab of the Magellan International School. Since we can't be there in person, I wanted to find alternatives. The project by plengyel got me started on the Bee Bot project. Thanks!
