ok, so i see this a lot in the ut music community, and i want to right these wrongs so donts 1. overuse leads a song can sound awesome, but overusing a lead can make a song sound a bit trash. when you overuse a lead, it makes the song sound bland. so dont 2. offkey basslines ok, this is a thing that i also see a lot. it really pisses me off, and it doesn't take that long to right your basslines. just find the key that your lead is in, and the starting note of your bassline should be that note. then as you go, make the lower notes match the same notes as the first note(s) of the lead. like megalovania's first two descending notes. 3. motifs with no context or relation to the song/chara please PLEASE do not do this, it makes a good song terrible. you might have amazing instruments with depth, but using the wrong motifs can make the whole thing trash. for example, let's take a homestuck megalo. using halloween hack megalovania with sburbian jungle is ok. BUT using halloween hack megalovania with BONETROUSLE is NOT good. bonetrousle is undertale, not homestuck. another example: let's take BURNING SANDS. burning sands uses PRESSURE's motif, staffbattle, bombs for throwing at you, and painful retribution. pressure is tenor's theme(the pap of salvationswap)so it's fitting, staffbattle is glyph's theme in salvationtale, bombs for throwing at you is used for her relation to aperture, and painful retribution because funny genocide papyrus character. an example of how NOT to do this would be: megalo: wheatley megalo. motifs used:bombs for throwing at you, wheatley science, and lycanthropy. now, lycanthropy is NOT THE RIGHT MOTIF TO USE BECAUSE IT'S IN JSAB AND NOT PORTAL 2. all the other motifs are ok. that's it, thanks for coming to my ted talk
