The streets were abuzz with lively chatter as the city folk awaited the arrival of the cities most beloved monarch, Queen Alibith. She had spent the past few years volunteering at a struggling kingdom a couple hundred miles away, but now that it was back on its feet, she was finally coming home. The Queens daughter, Thauma , stood proudly in front of the crowd, eagerly peering out onto the pink sea in hopes of spotting her Mothers ship. Whilst Alibith had been gone, she had taken over the role of Queen, which was unsurprisingly an extremely difficult job for a 13 year old to handle. As soon as her Mother stepped off the boat, she would be more then happy to hand the title back, along with all the stress that came with it. After a while, the small silhouette of the royal boat could be seen on the horizon line, and the crowd cheered happily. “Thauma, its time.” The cities spokesperson, Redgerock, stepped up beside her and motioned for her to take the stage, bowing slghtly out of respect. It was time for Thauma to read the speech she had been preparing. It was somewhat a speech to hand the role of queen back to Alibith, but mainly it was an extra credit assignment from school about responsibility. Thauma stepped onto the stage, looking over the large crowd before her. Two years ago, she would have been too nervous to even take the stage. But after being “queen” for this long, she had become accustomed to speaking infront of large crowds. “Thankyou, everyone for coming to the arrival ceremony of my mother, Queen Alibith. As you know, for the past few years, I have been running this kingdom. And although it was an honour, I am more then happy to hand the role back to my Mother. Most people don’t understand what a struggle it is to handle such a huge responsibility. By itself, stressful enough, but besides trying to keep this kingdom safe, I have also been trying to keep my grades up at school and look after my fathers farm. One would think that when your running the kingdom you wouldn’t have to go to school, but my teachers thought other wise” She stated, peering off the side of the stage, where a few of her school professors stood. A short burst of laughter came from the crowd, before Thauma continued. “Anyway, once again, thankyou for coming everyone. It has been such a great experience leading this kingdom, but I think we all know who the real Leader is here. Please Welcome back Queen Alibith!” The crowd erupted in cheer as the royal boat pulled into the harbour. The boats cannons went off, a signal that it had secured itself and the ramps could be lowered. First stepped out the boats captain, Thauma’s uncle, who waved, smiling at Thauma. Thauma waved back, adding in the secret signal that only her and her Uncle knew. Next came the crew of the ship, Old Mr Graigor and Mrs Graigor, Ms Paneopgin, the triplet sailors, and the newest Crew member, Dilin, who managed to get a job on the royal boat, despite only being Thaumas age. “Hey Dilin, you skipped class today!” She called out to him. “Oh yeah sorry about that, I was a bit occupied sailing across the ocean!” He called back sarcastically. “Well I was running the kingdom but I still had to go” She said quietly to him as the crew joined her on the stage. “Okay, shh now, shes coming out” he replied, ignoring her last comment. The Queen stepped off the ship, wearing a dress that looked as if it was made of only the purest dreams one could have. It dragged behind her, small pieces of fabric flowing in the wind. --2020 freya b--
