-Presenting- LOTR: A Study of AGE A Mathematical Concept This is a project diving deep into my own nerdiness. I was reading the Lord of the Rings for the first time and I came across the fact that hobbits become of age at 33, rather than 18 like in the United States. I decided that I wanted to make a converter that could give us a realistic idea of "how old hobbits would be in human years". However, time is not flexible, and their time scale is the same, so they aren't really this old, but they are at the maturity level of the age I give. I solve for this using equations and I decided to share this with you all. I was done... my nerdiness out of the way. ... ... Not quite, I then applied the difference of the calendar systems and made an equation for converting human years into hobbit ones. There is a converter at the end of the project for your convenience! I hope you all enjoy! UPDATE: I've done it! I've brought the ring to Mordor! Just kidding, I fixed the converter so it is correct! I made it in a repl, so take a look. Thank you to J.R.R. Tolkien as the characters and idea came from his books. Also, thanks to all the math teachers I've had. Algebra!!!! ---Updates--- I noticed while using the converter that the ages don't line up perfectly. I figured out why. I think it has to do with the fact that I convert the time scale after finding the age difference. I should have applied the time scale first, and then using that number, found the difference between the timelines. This would lead to a slightly different number. However, I am confident that my math is close enough that I will not be fixing this, especially since it is just a concept and the whole reason that this happens is because I decided to get fancy with the calendar differences. The ages are so close already, that I think you will get the gist of what the ages would be. However, if enough people want me to fix this, I might consider making a project with the revised study, so if this is something you want, type into the comments below!!!!! I fixed it!
