Hi guys! Why are there so few white tigers? . They're very rare in the wild for a reason, possibly as few as 1 in 10,000 wild tiger births. Because the white coloration is so disadvantageous to survival there is no recorded evidence of a white cub ever living long enough in the wild to become an adult. That is why white tigers ONLY exist in captivity and then ONLY as the result of continual, destructive and unethical inbreeding. Because of the extreme rarity of the white tiger allele in the wild, the breeding pool was limited to the small number of white tigers in captivity. According to Kailash Sankhala, the last white tiger ever seen in the wild was shot in 1958. Today there is a large number of white tigers in captivity. Today there are no white tigers in the wild. The last one was shot by a trophy hunter in 1958. There are 200 white tigers in captivity, the product of nine generations of inbreeding. The market value of a white tiger cub remains at previous levels – and the breeding continues. According to some estimates, only around 3,800 tigers are thought to remain in the wild. Today, tigers are mostly found in captivity with between 7,000 and 8,000 of these big cats held in tiger farms for breeding.
