A displacement reaction occurs when a more reactive element reacts with a less reactive element and displaces it. CuSO₄ + Zn -> ZnSO₄ + Cu CuSO₄ + Fe -> FeSO₄ + Cu FeSO₄ + Zn -> ZnSO₄ + Fe Rusting is the corrosion of iron. Copper corrodes to form a green layer. Fe + H₂O -> Fe₂O₃ .x H₂O Cu + H₂O + O₂ + CO₂ -> Cu(OH)₂ +CuCO₃
