✦ handling art theft ˎˊ- ミ★ hello! here's a small project about handling art theft. i wanted to make this project for a long time, because i've seen people handle art theft the wrong way. everything will be in the description, get ready to read! ミ★ note: according to the scratch team, it's okay for someone to trace or recolor your art without permission as long as "credit is given and your own ideas are incorporated." keep that in mind when you're interacting with an art thief. . . . h a n d l i n g . . a r t . t h e f t [ ✦ ] what is art theft? ✎ art theft, as you probably know, is when a user takes your art and claims it as their own. this can come in many forms, including using your art without credit, tracing your artwork (without credit), and so on. unfortunately, i have seen this happen too many times on scratch. here's some tips on how to handle art theft, if it ever happens. [ ✦ ] communication ✎ communication is key! if you see someone stealing your art, don't yell at them, "DON'T STEAL MY ART!! PLEASE TAKE IT DOWN!!!". seriously, i don't think that i should be saying this. yelling at them will make them feel attacked, and even though they did something bad, they won't feel like taking your art down if you made a bad first impression. instead, say something like, "hi, i'm (insert name)! could you please take down my art on your profile? i worked really hard on that, and i don't like it when someone says that they made it themselves. no hard feelings though! have a nice day!" this is a good example because it shows that you're open, and you're not mad at them, and you just want your art to be returned. after that, they'll be okay, if not a little embarrassed, and return/take down your art. [ ✦ ] warnings ✎ on the unlikely chance that they don't return the art, you should give them a more stern warning. something along the lines of, "i'm sorry, but i asked you to take down my art on your profile, it's not yours. could you take it down please? if you ignore me, i'll have to contact the scratch team." this shows that you're serious about having your art returned, and the consequences that follow. if they don't take down the art, report them, contact the scratch team, and get them involved. [ ✦ ] dos and don'ts ✓ DO talk to them kindly about the situation. ✓ DO be friendly and open. ✓ DO take matters into your own hand. contact the scratch team if needed. ✗ DON'T be impulsive, argue, yell at them or attack them. ✗ DON'T make a studio, invite all of your followers, and tell them about the thief- this should be a private thing between you and the thief. ✗ DON'T spam them or bombard them with hate. they are human too. [ ✦ ] prevent art theft ✎ a good way to prevent art theft is to add a signature or a watermark. put signatures or watermarks somewhere where it's hard to take off or crop off. [ ✦ ] outroduction ✎ by reading this, i hope i've educated you at least a little bit! hope you now know how to handle art theft and how not to handle it. if this ever happens to you, you'll be prepared. - lilac <3 _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ __ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ ミ★ edit: wow it's 3 months after i shared it and sdalsjhkjd edit: BRUH WHY IS THIS BLOWING UP AGAIN IT'S SO OLD LIKE WHAT DGLSHFJSKFHLSDK ミ★ music: 5:32 pm - the deli ミ★ paintbrush cup sticker: google _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ __ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _
