++Chapter 14++ ~Misti~ Every night i stared at the night sky, waiting to see Gala. But she never came. It had been a week since Gala died. We had set up a memorial for her in Quicksilver, and I had made a habit of sitting there every night. waiting. "hey, Misti." I turned, and saw Blitz sit beside me. He shuffled nervously, and I nudged him playfully. "hi," i mewed. I looked up to the stars again, and back to Blitz. "what are you so nervous about?" i teased, and he glared playfully and pawed me. "Mistiiiiiiii," he groaned. I laughed quietly, then stared at him. "you know you can tell me anything, right?" A week ago, i would have never thought of saying something like that to anycat, but i was feeling reckless enough to say it. Blitz laughed. "I was thinking of how you owe me since i saved your tail in the battle last week." "Seriously, Blitz??" i laughed, pawing him in the flank. "you did that of your own accord!" "fine, fine," said Blitz, laughing as well. "i hope we never have to experience that again," i said when we had calmed down. "but i'm so glad it's over. I'm so glad I have Mizumi, Goldenleaf, and...you." Blitz looked down. "i know," he said softly. "and this might be a weird question and a weird time to ask..." I looked at him. Blitz was still bashfully looking at the grass below, his eyes reflected by starlight. He paused, unsure, then looked up at the stars. "we've been through so much together. And I don't want it to end. Misti, you're the brightest star in my sky, and It would make me so, so happy..." he trailed off, and i stared at him, wondering what was going on...i held my breath... "Misti, will you be my mate?" The world stopped. All i could see was Blitz, and his blue, blue eyes staring into me. The stars glistened above, and i stopped, staring at Blitz. The cat who had supported me on my journey, the cat who stayed by my side and saved my life in battle. And I was positive who i wanted to spend the rest of my life with... "Blitz," i finally replied quietly. "you've been there for me ever since we met, and you know me so well...and i feel so safe around you, because you don't hide anything from me. And there's just something about you..." I put my paw on top of his. "...you know me, i'm terrible at sappy speeches," i joked, and he chuckled nervously. "so i'll just give the news to you." I took a deep breath, hoping that i wouldn't regret this decision. "Blitz, of course." The stars above shone, as if they supported my decision too, and a star shot across the sky. I saw it and thought about how i had compared Gala to a shooting star: fast and agile, her light shining brighter than the night sky. I hoped she would support my choice. Purring,\ we gazed at the constellations, tails entwined. - - - In the morning we decided to head back to Aria and see what was going on there. With the help of the magic of Quicksilver, everything was rebuilt and back to normal. Goldenleaf ran up to me, she seemed so much lighter and happier now that Blazen was back. "Misti, Misti, Misti," she said. "Come with me!!" I laughed and followed Goldenleaf, Blitz following behind. I had a feeling what this was all about when i saw the shooting star earlier... Goldenleaf pawed open the door to a pretty new green house, the exact shade of Gala's eyes, and we burst in. "Gala!!!" And there she was, looking exactly as she had before the battle. She had no scars, and stars seemed to be woven into her fur. she looked up at us, smiled, and touched noses with me and Blitz. it was almost like old times, and I tried not to let my sadness show. "well, we have news," I said, trying to look nonchalant but miserably failing. "We're officially mates!" Gala squealed and laughed, nuzzling me. "i knew there was something up with you two!" she cried. "Oh, Misti, congrats!!" Goldenleaf murmured her congrats as well and even Blazen came by to say hello. "what's all of this ruckus?" he mewed good-naturedly, and i decided that i definitely liked this cat. Gala went up to him, yelping about how we had mated, and he chuckled and meowed a congrats. "I almost forgot! We have a couple important announcements to make," he said, turning serious. He nodded, and Mizumi stepped out of the shadows. I hadn't even seen her there. "Gala, step forward," she said, and, suddenly nervous, Gala took a few paces forward. "Gala, you have proved yourself worthy more that we could count. And of course, it is your choice alone whether you want to accept this honor i present you with:" Mizumi leveled her gaze at Gala. "I cannot be Guardian forever. the power simply does not last that long, and it has been passed on for generations. I'd like to pass it on to you," she said, and Gala gasped. "however, this means you cannot take a mate. But don't let this stop you. Gala, will you be my apprentice?" (con't below)
