Here is the Critique Project (with tips) (FULLSCREEN!) !!! I am not the authority figure for art or critiques, so it won't be perfect, I'm still learning myself! While a lot of these critiques are directly for the original artists, I hope you learn some stuff! So I critiqued 5 different artists, I list them below I tried to keep true to the original artist’s style, however, style isn’t an excuse in general !! I also couldn't fit everything, I could write a lot more If I had time and room, so if you want to elaborate on ANYTHING related to art, or whether it's questions or advice, or even requests to critique, ASK!! :D FULLSCREEN use arrows, space, or click! Using arrows is most helpful to quickly toggle when I modify the art, it's aligned so you can see the change, its fun xD refs = references Orig.= original (piece of art) ........ I worked very hard on this, took a while, even with only like 5 pieces of art xD I'll link higher quality images to anyone interested :) ARTISTS INCLUDED: 1. @Mangi_Ix : https://scratch.mit.edu/projects/420550563/ 2. @that_arty_gurl : https://scratch.mit.edu/projects/431321200/ 3. @-ShatteredSilence- : https://scratch.mit.edu/projects/431147745/ 4. @mintyii : https://scratch.mit.edu/projects/430027985/ 5. @sunny0429 : https://scratch.mit.edu/projects/435052595/ Art mentioned / Inspiration @//rei_17 - https://www.pixiv.net/en/users/74184 INDEX for slides with general tips Slide : 2, 8, 20, 21, 24, 28, 29, 33, 34, 45, 46 Credit to the artists I featured, most of them are from other platforms, but if you want me to link anything, ask! Song - Whiggle by Cosmo SHeldrake Here’s a small summary of things to look out for in art/tips! 1. Practice! Do studies from life, photos, and other art! Can’t avoid it xD I use Pinterest for my photos. The biggest issue I see is anatomy and structural issues. Sometimes it’s hard to see the mistakes, so FLIP THE CANVAS :) 2. related to , reference academic studies! It’s easier to improve if the art you look up to and reference is solid in the categories of structure, anatomy, value, etc. Obviously tastes change, art I once saw as amazing is now decent and riddles with mistakes I can now spot. Art is subjective, but I don’t think style can excuse certain mistakes, LEARN THE RULES So that you can break them (rules such as realistic anatomy will greatly influence other forms of art like anime, art is connected) 3. Try to avoid airbrushes and using a lot of overlaying effects, the source has to have decent lighting and colors otherwise it becomes a mess. and DON"T USE BLACK OR WHITE for shading/highlighting (white can be used for small highlights, but don't use white to create light on a dark brown, and down use black to shade a blue, etc. Black is rarely ever truly black in nature, go for dark browns or blues) In general, try simplifying your work, avoid airbrushes unless for blush/gradients etc, over using airbrushes is a common mistake. Simple is sometimes better, of course this is my opinion but I rarely see airbrushes used in excess in art I look for inspiration. I could rant more but you don't care so xD
