Purple pikmin isn't resistant to anything.When something needs 10 pikmin one purple pikmin can carry a thing that needs 10 pikmin AND will still count as 10 pikmin! Wow... purples are strong!White pikmin are resistant to poison. Resistant means able to fight in.
