EDIT 12 / 25 / 2022 : HEY! so i’ve seen a couple people kinda just tracing this and reusing the art but with different colors/characters? i just wanna say im completely fine with that (i love seeing how ppl wanna use my art lol) but PLS PLS PLS could you just put smth like “@HappySunny11 (original artist)” in the description? tysm! <3 SO! a very curious individual asked me how i drew cats !! people have asked me to do this before, but now that i have a more consistent style i decided it’d be nice to do a tutorial for once :0 below i have explanations/steps for each slide uwu,,, enjoy!! OH! and i used procreate and my finger to draw this,,,,, i’ll mention what brushes i use as i go along haha (my canvas size is 960 x 720) 1 - i always start with a circle for the head :00 you can use other shapes though, be creative!! (technical pen at about 6-8 is what i use for the sketch) 2 - circle for the chest!! again, you can get creative with shapes if you’d like 3 - here i added the chest fur!! i’ll be drawing cat simon for this tutorial uwu- he’s a siamese / ragdoll mix with the siamese’s patterns + smarts and the ragdoll’s vulnerability + long, fluffy fur! chest fur can vary in length, so be as creative and stylistic as you want- 4 - here’s the front legs and paws!! i don’t usually sketch out shapes for the legs, so check the next slide for shapes 5 - the basic shapes for legs; the smaller circle is the elbow where the leg bends, and the larger ones are ?? the shoulder and then the forearm?? im not sure what they’re called on cats so don’t trust me lmao- 6 - hind legs + paws !! i like to go for more pointed shapes for these guys haha- check next slide for shapes 7 - kind of how hind legs work???? i’ve always kind of stunk at hind leg anatomy sorry lol 8 - this is kinda how cats sit!! i left out the front paws so you can see how the haunches work ig lol,,,, 9 - back to full view!! i added the tail :00 10 - ears!! ears are one of the most important parts when drawing a cat as they help show how the cat is feeling :00 simon’s always in a bad mood so i flattened his ears pff 11 - this is totally optional,,, ,, but i like adding hair to my kitties :fingertouch: i still have no idea how his hair is supposed to work just go with it 12 - so then on another layer i kinda just draw an eye lol- eyes are prolly the most expressive part of a cartoon so feel free to exaggerate! i half closed his eye to make him look tired and annoyed lmao 13 - then im lazy so i copy+paste the eye and stretch it out a little to get that 3/4s perspective 14 - full view again!! i put the eyes on the drawingg 15 - i just added a few little things here, the eyebrows, mouth, and nose :00 16 - LINEART TIME LINEART TIME!! i used technical pen at 8 or 9 for this i think??? idk bUt i only really use technical pen ahaha 17 - made a new layer under the lineart, set the lineart layer to reference, and colored in the base color! 18 - new layer, clipping mask over the base color, and all the markings of this color :00 19 - same as 18 but i used the next color on his design uwu 20 - merged the clipping layers onto the base coloring and colored in the eyes and all the other details i didn’t get to :0 21 - i feel like someone asked me how i do the glasses effect??? well anyways, i make a new layer and draw them out 22 - i make a new layer under the glasses, set the glasses layer to reference, and color it in to look something like this- 23 - set the opacity of the layer you just made to about 10-20%, then merge them together :00 24 - shading!! i used a bold purple for this- i set the layer blending mode to ‘linear burn’! ‘multiply’ also works well though uwu- i set the opacity to about 25-40%! the higher the opacity, the darker the shadows 25 - i added a nice little white outline and watermarked it!! ahh, i hope you guys enjoyed my little tutorial :00 feel free to remix and try it out if you want to? or you can leave feedback/critique in the comments, feel free to tell me what did and didn’t work for you if you tried this, im super curious :OOO if you’re interested in how i do anything else, feel free to request a tutorial!!! i have quite a bit of time on my hands right now <3 song is Epoch by The Living Tombstone art and character by me!! the way i clipping masked the markings is actually a technique i observed use on a stream!! go give him a follow, he's pretty epic <3
