Welcome to Speedrun Challenge. The goal is to beat this game as fast as possible. There is a guide in the notes in credits to help you. _____________________________________________ Controls: WASD to move _____________________________________________ The Basics: There are some basic things you should know about the game if you are speedrunning it. The numbers at the bottom of the screen: These will be hidden if you haven't beaten the game yet. The number at the bottom left corner is attemps. The +/- variable is how much faster or slower you are going than your best time so far. For example, -3 would be 3 frames FASTER than your best time and 7 would be 7 frames SLOWER than your personal best. Level Time is the amount of frames it took to beat the level. Best time is you personal best (PB). Fast Accelerating/Fast Moving: In this game, your character moves and accelerates faster in the direction behind him. Basically if you do a backwards jump you will gain lots of speed. The character can only turn around while he is on the ground. If you press a and d at the same to the character will face left but wont slow down as much Also, the character will jump to frame AFTER jump is inputted, therefore the fastest way to do backwards jump would be d+dw+dwa+dw. (Press d then d and w, then d, w, and a, then dw. This tech NEEDS to be used in level 7 and can be used in the last level. TLDR: You go fast when backwards. Hitbox: The character itself is the hitbox. The blue part is the part that the wall collides with. The yellow part is what senses when you are touching the ground. The pink part stops you from going through the ceiling. _____________________________________________ Useful Glitches: There are some useful glitches in this game. The wall jump glitch: Wall jumping in not part of the code in this game, but it is still possible to touch a wall and jump again. To execute this glitch you need to touch the side of a wall/platform with the BOTTOM half of the character only while having a certain positioning and speed. The best and easiest level to test this on is the wall in level 5. "Corner Jump" Glitch: If you backwards jump into the bottom right corner of a level while holding jump you will jump in the next level WITHOUT turning around. This can be used to skip over the red in level 3. ____________________________________________ Level by Level Guide to Speedrunning: Level 1: The fastest way to beat this level is to hold right to start, then press and hold up BEFORE you touch the ground. The frame you touch the ground press left and right (a+d) to face left and release left the next frame. This should cause you to backwards jump and gain lots of speed. Release up before you hit the ground again and continue holding right until you beat the level. If done perfectly you will get a 45 level time. If you hold left for more than one frame you will get 47-49 level time which is perfectly fine. Level 2: The most optimal strategy is to do a "Corner Jump" to jump over the red quickly in lvl 3, but you don't have to if you are just starting out. To do the corner jump do a backwards jump (d+dw+dwa+dw) when you are about 1/3 into the level. You should hit the bottom left corner of the level. Make sure you are still HOLDING up when you hit the corner. If this strategy is executed perfectly you will get a 39 Level Time but 40 or 41 is fine. Level 3: This level should be easy if you did a corner jump in the previous level. Just hold up and right. If you chose to not do the corner jump (it is slightly difficult) then you will just have to carefully make your way around the red. Level 4: One of the hardest levels to do as fast as possible. The best possible time for this level is 63 (but that is REALLY hard, I've only done it in TAS. The best I've gotten was 64) If you are starting out I recommend just playing this level normally. The setup for getting the fastest time on this level is to first do corner jump in level 2, hold jump for ALL of level 3 and 4, release right and press left the frame BEFORE you touch the ground on the right side below the floating platform, this will cause you to jump toward the floating platform and land on the very right edge of it. 2 Frames before you touch the floating platform (when you are VERY close to it) release left and hold right, the frame you touch the floating platform press left and right at the same time and release left the next frame. (You should still be holding jump) This should cause you to backwards jump onto the pillar on the right of the level. The frame you touch the pillar, press left and right (while still holding jump) to stay facing backwards. If aaaaaaaall of that is executed with frame-perfect precision then you will get a LEGENDARY level time of 63, but anything below 70 is pretty good and below 68 is really good. Don't freak out if you can't do this perfectly, it is REALLY hard. The guide is continued in to notes and credits because the description is to long lol
Level by Level Guide to Speedrunning Continued: Level 5: This is the first level that a "wall jump" is used to save time. All you do is jump (backwards is faster and more consistent but forwards is ok) into the TOP of the wall and you will jump again (hopefully, it is sorta luck based) **Make sure you are still holding jump when you hit the wall** Remember that this depends on your specific speed and positioning so it won't work every time. A 44 level time is the fastest you can go but 46 is average for a backwards walljump. A lot of the time a 44 is impossible. Level 6: This level has one of the most PRECISE tricks in the game. I DO NOT reccomend to do this until you have at least a sub 800 time, unless you really want to suffer the pain of resting on this level soooo many times. Just beat the level normally if you have other time saves. With that said, to do the fast version of this level (15-20 frames faster) you jump over the red line, go onto the floating platform and jump into the very short floating platform on the left side of the screen. If you jump at the frame-perfect time you will sometimes, sometimes wall jump (more like bounce) up to the final platform. This is A LOT more inconsistent than wall jump in level 4 for some reason and requires a FRAME-PERFECT jump into the wall. After you hit the wall you should hold right, along with jump and hope you actually wall jump. You should backwards jump along the next platform to gain speed. This trick is so annoyingly random, but luckily a found a setup for this so that it works 100% conistantly.(I think). The first step of the set up is to do BACKWARDS wall jump in level 5 and let go of jump after you do the wall jump. Continue to hold right and press jump the frame AFTER you touch the ground (not the frame you touch the ground) Then continue to hold jump and release right and press left the frame after you jump the second time (on the right side of the line of red) This will make the wall jump/bounce guaranteed if you jump on the right frame. If you do everything perfect you will get a 94 or 95 (if you get 95 and did everything perfect then you are a pixel away from 94) but anything below 100 is fine. Level 7: This level is way simpler than the last one. All you have to do is backwards jump across the pit. Ideally would would want to do a corner jump to save 3 frames in level 8 but it doesn't matter too much. Level 8: Not much to say just jump backwards onto each floor. You can do backwards jumps on the third floor if you want. A good time on this level is below 232 or below 230 if you add in extra backwards jumps. The best I've done on this level is 220 but the TAS gets 215 (but that's crazy). Also when you get to the very top hold jump until you get to the next level. Level 9: If you held jump at the top of level 8 you can just hold jump and right. To save a little bit of time you can backwards jump on the second step. Level 10: Land on the first floating step and backwards jump off of it to the right side of the screen, ignoring all other steps. Level 11: The Final level (Good Thing too because I am running out of description.) Just backwards jump over the lava pit. (It is possible but difficult) You can choose to not do this skip if you don't want to. Phew that was long. All of those strategies executed perfectly will result in a ~710 time but that would be ridiculous if anyone got that. My Best time is 698 but a good goal to start off with is below 1000. The TAS is 667 but that requires tons of frames perfect one frame a+d presses and many SUPER precise movements to save those precious frames.
