Press space to switch between backdrops, there are three Ooh tysm Mali! I really shouldn't be doing this(I already have 1 bookish thing and multiple audiobooks in various stages of production, but a short story can't hurt. And already my brain mutters, 'famous last words' so let's see how this goes. Oh, and this is my first short story so it will be bad Also my writing is bad and my strategy is to tire myself out so much before I write it that I'm too exhausted to just give up
I sighed, and put down my tray at my lunch table. "Hey Em, what's up? Why do you look so weird?" My perky friend, Jade, was already here. /At midnight it will only be/ "Where's Jessi?" I was happy to see her, of course, but Jessi was who I needed. Jessi would know what to do. "What, do you have a crush on her or something?," Jade teased. I made a face. I had been so careful to keep it under wraps, but somehow Jade had found out. Even though she and Jessi were the only ones who knew, I still hated when Jade joked about it. /The right time in setting free/ "I told you, it doesn't work like that. I can't choose who I have a crush on," I snapped. I didn't have time for this. Jessi set her tray down next to ours. "What are we talking about?" I shook away everything. "Jessi, you know my girlfriend?" Jessi's mouth opened, then closed, then opened again. "How would that work? It-" "She," I corrected. "She. How would she assume a physical form? It makes no sense." I shook my head. "She-she said she wanted to meet y'all." /Accept the consequences/ "Oh, this is definitely a trap," said Jade. "No, it's not," I protested. "She isn't like the legends." "Fine, then we'll go. When is it?" I hesistated. "Midnight." She shuddered. "Are you sure?" "Yes." --------------------------------------------------------------------------------- /Complete trust, a human mark/ I gulped in the fresh night air. The graveyard looked serene, if covered in fog. Which was good, fog meant she could appear tonight. It was why she had chosen Mors Civitatem, and not perhaps, oh, Louisiana to live. I felt the fog reach me, and shuddered. At some point, it stopped being fog touching me and started being Eudamonia. Of course, that wasn't her actual name, but she had insisted that I call her that, the first time we had met. /You must let her go/ She started to draw me into a kiss, but stopped short as she noticed my Jade and Jessi. Jade looked rather unimpressed, whereas Jessi looked like she would faint. "So these are your friends," she said, as unimpressed as Jade. /Can't hold her close/ "Yeah." I was nervous, and the cold wasn't helping. But of course Eudamonia couldn't help with that. She was a creature of shadow, of pure darkness. She thrived on misery, on death. 15 people had gone missing already, before she had met me, although she promised she had changed. /And in doing so/ But something was off. "Eudamonia?," I asked, worried. Her body started to convulse. "Told you it was a trap," muttered Jade in the background. /Your lover's demise you may cause/ "No, no, no!" I put my mouth over hers, a vain attempt at CPR. As soon as I did so, she stopped. I sat up. "Eudamonia?," I said again, fearing the worst. /But freedom real and freedom true/ She grew to twice her size, her true form, and chuckled, if you could even call something that unhuman a chuckle. And then she uttered the words I had been dreading since the morning. "Is worth the price...of any heart."
