northerby toby eaton is the boy and naomi felix griffing is the girl. the black thing is naomi's "shadow witch". shadow witches are small witches that follow you around in your shadow. all of this is fake, of course. this is just a story. in the story, some bad 10-year-old magicians are hungry for power, and end up trapping northerby, naomi's best friend. naomi sets out on a journey to save northerby, accidentally causing a world war in the process.
