Press space to switch between original and re-design Advice for @xaevic: 1️⃣ Pick a pallet. Sometimes you might not want to start with specific colors because you're not sure which direction you want to take the artwork, but always make sure the colors you are using can work well together. Your sun clashes the most with the piece, then the sky color second. 2️⃣ Flat art can always look great, but with the hill layers overlapping, I would use gradients for this piece. You can see how everything except for the birds, trees, and sun use gradients. The sun looks brighter without a gradient and the other details are too small to use individual gradients. 3️⃣ Trees and birds can grow/fly whichever way you want them to. If the piece was very abstract (not the same style you are going for), the angled trees and birds would fit better. However, I placed each of them facing right-side up. I also made a taller tree variation because one variation makes it seem stamped. The birds are also re-designed with a more rounded look. 4️⃣ Another really big aspect is the curvature. The hills should be more complimentary. Also, avoid having curves as you have on the left side of the back hill. It is not smooth like the rest of the curves. Using the same curvature style, I added foggy clouds with a casual mist to set an atmosphere. I added a radial gradient as well to surround the sun to enhance the fog. 5️⃣ Focal point. Mostly two things. Using the center as a focal point does not usually work. To avoid that, I moved the Sun and the valley leading to the same location on the artboard. For something rushed, I think the balance is a good example of good composition. 6️⃣ BE CREATIVE! My re-design is not up to par and I didn't get very creative with it. Use new dimensions, explore uncommon colors, and try new things. Each day confirms to me that you can create a new style that looks good. When you've thought all of the great styles have already been made, think again. ;)
I rushed this quite a bit, so I deserve some critique XD Original project by @xaevic
