i know what you're thinking. "seriously? you just made this account a few days ago! who are you to tell me not to make accounts?" i know, i know. but this account has a point. and i'm still working on... well... not making a lot of accounts. so I guess this is to myself just as much as it is to you, viewer. projects exist for a reason: they're what you pour your energy and creativity into, and they are where you can show off all your talents. accounts also exist for a reason: to show that a certain set of projects were made by a certain person. therefore, there is really only a need for one account per person. of course, if you really hate your username, or if you have a good reason to need a fresh start, or if you want to be anonymous (like me), creating a few extra accounts is not a big deal. but I'm talking about those people who move every few weeks - every few days - some even every day. because at that point, the account becomes the project. a show of your username design skills, aesthetic bios, and themed profiles. and there are a lot of things wrong with this. the first thing issue, of course, is that it's taking up usernames that other people could have made better use of. scratch is lucky not to be overpopulated like some other social media sites, so getting a good username isn't all that hard. but as time goes on, it gets harder and harder to find something short and sweet, and taking up usernames is pushing that timeline faster and faster. the second issue, however, is something that doesn't seem to be brought up nearly as much as it should be. every account you make counts as a new follower to your friends and the people you look up to. that means that if you have, say, fifteen accounts, and use them all to follow one person, it counts as fifteen separate people following them. and I know that followers and fame don't matter (see my first project on this account), but is it really fair for one person to have the influence of fifteen? the same thing applies to accounts made specifically just to follow a certain person, whether that person is yourself or not. when someone sees that they have 100 followers, they think of 100 individual people behind their computers, not one person with 100 different accounts. but the problem with creating accounts, I think, is that it's addicting once you start doing it. because if you make one, what's stopping you from making another? and another? and another? and there are just so many good usernames to take, after all... no. stop. stop right now. you don't want to make extra accounts, and you know that deep down. put your username ideas into an unshared project or google doc, and suck it up. I'm challenging you right now, and I'm challenging myself too. stop making accounts for a whole month, and you will stop feeling the urge to create more. because after all, habit is everything. and if your habit is to create random, useless accounts, then break it, because it's not a good one. but as with everything people say to do, it's not as easy as it seems. so here's some tips. - make one new account and don't tell anybody, so you can use it as your workspace when designing bios, aesthetics, banners, and other things like that. once you're done, you'll probably stop wanting to create the account. - when you get an idea for an account, write it down and come back in seven days. if you still want to create it, go ahead - it's probably a good idea if you're still interested in it after some time. if you don't, great job not being impulsive. - make a usernames project! i'm probably going to do one on this account soon (look out for that :p) - it's a great way to get all your username ideas out without actually making the accounts. be sure to include a good idea of what you want the account to look like, so the person who makes it does it how you initially envisioned. that's it, I guess, please don't create accounts - thanks and bye xD
