If I get to adopt her I'll continue working on the series I started (it's focused on her life) called Compound. <3 Name: Luna Amana (Luna or Lu for short) Birthdate: August 13 Current age: 16 Extra: Small for her age, suspects her real birthdate was after August 13th. (This will make sense when you read chapter 1.) Backstory: Luna grew up in an underground compound. Almost everyone had a goth-like appearance, like wearing dark colors, having limbs adorned with chains, tattoos, and fishnet tights. The compound was under-ground. It was a full-fledged society. There were classes available for those ages 5-15. Those from ages 5-15 weren't really full members of the compound just yet. When everyone turned 16, they took training for 2 months to become full members of the society at the compound. If they failed or gave up during the 2 months.. they were to be treated like the children from ages 5-15 were treated; they wouldn't be able to be involved in major politics, leadership, and the best jobs. Although rarely anyone ever failed.. at least not for the last 200 years, until the year Luna turned 16. Some in the compound are born with magic. They only find out they have it around 16-19 years of age. Those who have magic are known as 'Rivelets'. The word is like witches, but more of an insult. Rivelets are known to wind up dead at the corner of Moonlight Market in the morning (Moonlight Market has an ironic name because everyone in the compound barely ever sees the moonlight, since they're underground) because those without magic fear and envy Rivelets, and see need to hunt the Rivelets down. Though they're not permitted to murder Rivelets by the government, so they try to make it as secretive as possible. If you're a Rivelet and you have magic, you better train yourself to use it better so you don't make a glowing rune appear in the middle of the air during training. There's no classes for Rivelets to improve their magic use because the same people who murder Rivelets (Rivelet-hunters) are the ones in charge of the schooling segment of the Government, and if 16-year-old's know how to control their magic and don't burst a glowing rune out in the middle of class, there's no way to tell if they're Rivelets or not; therefore they can't murder the Rivelets because they don't know who the Rivelets are, and if they killed everyone who was suspicious, that wouldn't go along un-noticable. The magic Rivelets have aren't like those of witches and wizards in Harry Potter; with wands and all that. It's something they can do with their minds. They use runes to work their magic. Runes look like glowing symbols, and each one can do a certain thing. The swirl means a word similar to dizzy in an ancient Rivelet language. It can knock someone out or paralyze them. A heart can indicate that the person a Rivelet used the rune on will lose someone they love. If the triangle is used on you it means you will forever be in a triangle relationship with someone you love and someone you envy or hate, and in the end the one you envy cuts off your end of the triangle, and they get the person you loved so dearly. An X.... well that's pretty obvious. See, these effects all seem so cruel and bad, but there's also another side to these runes. Bad runes are easy, but good runes take patience, passion, and expertise. (not much time because those in the compact mature quickly.) The double side to the swirl is being swirled into love and happiness and joy. You can see what I mean. All runes except the X have a counter side.... Will Luna learn how to control her magic and pull through training? Chapter 1: August the 13th. I blinked away the sleepiness. I looked up and saw my mom smiling down at me. "Happy Birthday Lu," she said. I plastered on a smile on instinct. It was Friday, August 13th. "Thanks," it came out quieter and softer than I had meant. I coughed and cleared my throat. "Thanks," I tried to say it louder this time but my voice was unsteady. I rubbed my eyes and sat up. "Today is training day," my mom reminded me. I shot up out of bed and went to the bathroom and grabbed a hair brush. All residents of the compound that are age 16 must get to the training at 6:04 AM on the first day, or else it'll count as them giving up and therefore quitting. Whereas in the schooling for ages 5-15 you only had to be there by 9:00 AM. I brushed my hair to no use. My mother came in and took the brush from me gracefully -how could she have the time and patience be graceful when I might be late for training?- and stroked it through my hair. Everyone was never told their actual birthday date, just told at the age of 1 that it was on August 13th, the first day of training so there were no late bloomers who had to wait until next year because of their date of birth and other things of the sort. Once she had finished combing it, I ran out. "Bye mom! Love you!" I hurried down along to join the large group of kids flowing down to the training center.
