Cream was tired of seeing ghosts. Most of them weren't actually that bad, but it was hard to see something nocat else could see, especially when she had no friends to tell her secret to. There was one spirit, called Splash, who was downright awful to have around. He tormented Cream every chance he could get, appearing and making her laugh whenever she was trying to be serious, talking to her whenever she was trying to talk to someone else, distracting her in every way possible whenever she was trying to concentrate. Cream hated him. But he seemed determined to stick around. He followed her everywhere, trying to get her to stop and talk to him by standing in her way. She refused, simply walking through him, and trying not to notice his heartbroken expression whenever she ignored him. Finally, one day, while he was following her around the house while humming an extremely annoying tune that she had stuck in her head, she caved. "What do you want?" she asked him impatiently, stopping so suddenly he went right through her. "To be your friend," he replied without missing a beat. Cream froze, sure she'd misheard him. Why would anyone, much less a ghost, want to be her friend? He looked down. "I... I never had any friends when I was... when I was alive. So... I just thought..." She had never seen Splash at a loss for words, but he was now. She hesitated, then smiled and flicked her tail through him. "You thought right," she whispered, then ran off. After all, a ghost friend was better than no friend at all.
