Come join Wavetail, Fowlfeather, and Fleckpaw on the Shadowclan dawn patrol!” Mossycoat: “Sure thing, Fairwillow!” Wavetail: “Come on, this way.” (The group exits camp.) Fowlfeather: “Go on ahead, Fleckpaw, see if you can catch a mouse or two.” Mossycoat: “It sure is nice to get out of camp. I was helping out in the nursery all day yesterday, to make up for Woollypelt’s absence.” Fowlfeather: “Yeah, he was a big help around there. I would’a gone insane if he hadn’t been there to babysit when I had kits.” Mossycoat: “Too bad he was a lying prey-thief, then. It’s probably good that he’s not around the kits anymore. (Everyone pauses.) Fowlfeather: “Honey, you don’t actually believe that… Do you?” (Mossycoat blinks, surprised.) Mossycoat: “Well, yeah. Of course. Why else would Beechstar have exiled him?” Wavetail: “You’re around Woollypelt’s age, aren’t you? You weren’t around when Beechstar was normal.” Mossycoat: “What are you talking about?” Wavetail: “... Nevermind, Mossycoat. Let’s just finish this patrol.” Mossycoat: “No, I want to know what you mean. Don’t try to brush this off- why are you acting like Beechstar was in the wrong?” Fowlfeather, frustrated: “He exiled an innocent cat in the middle of leaf-bare. Can’t you see how cruel that is?” Mossycoat: “Woollypatch wasn’t innocent, though! Shadowclan clearly said it was him at the gathering!” Fowlfeather: “Love, we-” Wavetail: “We’re not changing her mind, Fowlfeather.
