He was just about to catch one before he heard his mother's voice. "Cirus!" Cirus spun around, tearing through the grass. "I was tired anyway. But can you please check my room first?" His mother stood up, a glint of frustration in her eyes but still nodded. "Wait in the kitchen, will you?" Cirrus nodded, slowly wagging his plumed tail as he walked through the door. He sat down on a cushion in the kitchen, waiting for her to come back. Suddenly, a firefly managed to squeeze through the window, dancing in the air above cirus' head. He swung his front paws in the air to catch it, only to tumble onto his back when his mother walked back in. "It’s fine, Cirus. There's no monsters in there tonight." Cirus sprang up, shaking the loose dust from his pelt. "Thanks, mom!" He dashed into his room, decorated with star stickers on the ceiling and pillows all over the floor, creating the illusion of his room being a giant blanket fort. He fell asleep to the quiet hum of the cricket's chirps and the slow luminance of the stars on his ceiling that night. In the morning, he scrambled into the kitchen and slit into one of the cushion seats. He was happy, at least until he saw the miserable look on his mother's face. "What-happened?" He mumbled. She turned around. "We're moving." Cirus stumbled back. "You're joking." "No I’m not. We have to start packing up today. Our house is being sold." "What!? How come you didn't tell me?" Cirus stammered. "We just got the mail last night. Your father is getting a new job in the city." His mother sighed. "But- I’ve lived in the country my whole life. It isn't fair." Cirus looked at his paws, his voice now full of despair. "I know it isn't, but it's what we have to do. You're going to have tons of friends in the city. Now help me pack up our stuff." Cirus nodded. "I'll get my room." By the end of the day, all of the packing boxes had been filled, and Cirus' jaws ached from carrying practically his whole room. "It's going to be a long day tomorrow," his mother announced. "We're taking a train to the city." - a month later. - Cirus grabbed his bag between his jaws and dashed out the door, making his way to school. He plopped down on the steps, wearing a subtle smile and wagging his tail softly. "Hey! Over here!" He barked to one of the appeoaching students, who walked over to sit next to him. "We're just waiting on Tidewater now." He said, turning to his friend. He wagged his tail as Tidewater approached, her turquoise-grey fur reflecting the sunlight and turning her pelt snowy white. Cirus turned to both before the bell rang. "My mother was right. I did make friends here." He smiled, a star sticker still stuck to his tail.
