Estimates by me may differ from official reports - Typhoon Mangkhut (PH name Ompong) was an extremely strong storm that struck the Philippines in September 2018. The storm started off in the west pacific and intensified after crossing Guam. It became a category 5 and hit the Philippines, still as a category 5. After weakening due to crossing over mountainous terrain, it struck Hong Kong, becoming the worst to do so in a long time.
