Rosa Parks, (born February 4, 1913, Tuskegee, Alabama, U.S.—died October 24, 2005, Detroit, Michigan), African American civil rights activist whose refusal to relinquish her seat on a public bus to a white man precipitated the 1955–56 Montgomery bus boycott in Alabama, which is recognized as the spark that ignited the U.S. civil rights movement. Edit: Today I learned that the NAACP put her on the bus to get arrested on purpose. They had helped another women get out of jail when it happened to her, then had Rosa Parks do what she did so that they could get press coverage. pretty cool hu? this is the feminist of the week <3- Ari
