My first animation :P forgive the horrible animating, this is more just to address the whole thing. So lately, Gamestop (GME)'s stock has been going up like crazy. Why? All because of a subreddit called r/Wallstreetbets. It's a long story, but in summary a ton of rich guys decided to bet on Gamestop's stock price to plummet through "shorting" it, basically meaning they would borrow the stock from someone, sell it to someone else, than hope to make a profit by buying it back later for a lower price to return to the person they lended from. Anyways this happened a lot and the subreddit realized that if they bought a ton of GME, the shorters would be forced to buy the stock back for a way higher price as long as they held onto their stock. They did this, and caused the stock to soar. There's loads more to talk about with this, but I think that's enough to give you an idea of what happened. Oooh, you're the one person that actually read that whole thing? If you understood it, good for you, if you didn't, I don't blame you I did a horrible job explaining shorting. Just comment asking for a better explanation and I'll try to make one :D ✨Thanks for watching! A love and favorite would be amazing!✨ Credits: Me for animations, Google for the actual stock data, SoundBible and Felicyan Studios for the sound effects, and Amadeus for the music. Tags???
