It's so pointless IMO. People are going to do what they want. Your words and opinions likely will have no outcome whatsoever on their choices. And I'm no exception -- this is all only an opinion. But the fact of the matter is, it's okay to have an opinion when it's poised to be only that -- an opinion and nothing more. But when you're attacking and aiming to shame people because of their opinions, things start to get a little serious. I stumbled upon a video by Kitten Lady on YouTube. Yes, Kitten Lady, who, unsurprisingly, is an Adopt Don't Shop Karen. But she was blatantly calling out Justin Bieber because he bought two perfectly healthy Savannah kittens from a breeder. Now, I wouldn't give a dang if she was calling him out because of his past. That would make total sense. In this case she was calling every single person who had bought from a breeder -- so I and a few of you I'm sure were included, indirectly. How is breeding bad, eh? I understand actual pet "shops" and unintentionally supporting mills, but to call someone out for buying something that is -- ahem, this is just my opinion -- probably healthier than any shelter pet out there? Shelter pets aren't euthanized because of breeders, and anyone who says they are... Come on, man. You know that's not the reason as well as I do. They're euthanized for other, more logical reasons. Not that killing an animal is logical in any occasion. I'm just saying, it's more logical than thinking "Oh! Breeders. They're cruel because they only bring more animals into the world." If that's honestly so terrible, why not go ahead and give each and every mother animal out there a nice slap on the shoulder for producing? Breeding for most of them is a literal living. To throw relentless insults at them for having a job is just plain stupid. As implied in the beginning of this little book, they're going to continue doing their job no matter what you say. And don't get me wrong -- adopting is great. It saves so many lives. But not everyone is going to opt to adopt (that rhymes lmao.) With breeding they can at least know what to expect, in every aspect -- overall guaranteed temperament, appearances, qualities and etc.... But if you don't want anything in particular, then go ahead and adopt, totally. I mean, the only reason people ever "shop" anyway is because they want something specific. Just my two stupid cents. But thanks for taking part in this equally stupid essay lmao.
The whole saying is a bit too generalizing. "Shopping" doesn't define buying from a breeder -- if you wanna get technical "shopping" means supporting mills, in this particular case. Buying from a breeder isn't the same as shopping because unlike shopping, it's not that bad. Not nearly as bad, actually. Don't call someone out because they chose to buy a purebred instead of an unpredictable mix, please? K thanks bye.
