Another example using Three.js is shown at http://www.malinc.se/m/Lorenz.php. Three butterflies that start close to each other will soon drift away from each other but still trace out the same visual pattern. This pattern is a so called strange attractor, in this case it's called the Lorenz attractor. This is an example of deterministic chaos. The sensitivity of initial conditions was described metaphorically by Lorenz as the butterfly effect, that is: the flapping of a butterfly may give rise to hurricanes.
