Our lives today are dependent on one very special thing: trees! This project celebrates Arbor Day, an April holiday in which people are encouraged to plant trees. By planting trees, you can all help stop global warming. A History of Arbor Day: In the 1880s, American pioneers began moving into Nebraska. However, they had not bargained for the sheer lack of trees in the area. One J Sterling Morton with a contagious enthusiasm for trees suggested that they nominate the tenth of April as the date of a tree-planting ceremony. Over a million trees were planted that day, and later, the government of Nebraska declared Arbor Day a holiday to be observed on April 22. Today, people all over the United States plant trees on the last Friday of April to celebrate the plants that make our lives possible today.
