AIBO is a series of robotic dogs designed by SONY. Most models were dogs, but they also had lion cubs, or huskies, jack-russel terriers and bull terriers. These The first prototype of AIBO was announced in mid-1998, the first consumer model out on May 11th, 1999. What did the first model look like? The first commercially available AIBO dog looked like a beagle. It was silver, with a golden-brown hue and gray claws. In November 1999, they released an improved version of the original, which was shiny silver with black claws or in a metallic black color. How much did AIBO dogs cost? The first models were probably the rarest. They sold out 20 minutes after their launch, on June 1st (1999). They cost about 250,000 yen (Japanese currency) which converted to $2,500 US dollars. The second generation cost about $1,500 US dollars, which went down lower than $1,000. The third generation (released in November 2003) cost $1,599 US dollars. It sold around 25,000 units!
