Oh gosh, he was really doing this, wasn't he? Button clutched the bouquet of flowers closer to his chest. He was going to go find Grumbot now. Gah, this was so nerve-wracking! Why did he feel so out of it? It was just a day. A special day, but that didn't matter. Nope. He was just giving a few flowers to a fri- hm. He was giving a few flowers, all wrapped up in a nice little tie-dye ribbon, to Grumbot. Ah, the heart he apparently had was racing so fast right now and he wasn't even near the other bot! Button traversed the Shopping District, glancing around to see if he could find his target. Surely Grumbot was around here somewhere, right? Of course, he might be literally anywhere else in the world, but he was probably here. Oh no, what if Button didn't find him? He glanced up at the clear, cloudless sky, where the sun was right above him. He had wasted so much time gathering these flowers from his and Hel's garden, he might miss Grumbot before the day ended! And what then? Button didn't want to think about that. He had spent all this time preparing some flowers and a few words, and it might all be for naught. He came to an intersection and turned the corner around The Boomer's shop, where he saw it. Off in the distance, a few shops down. Grumbot... and Gift. They were chatting. And Gift was holding a flower. Oh. OH. Button quickly turned back around the building, pressing his back to the side. He pressed his empty hand to his head as his heart jumped at least another twenty beats. This could not be happening. Had he not seen that right? Surely not. But that stupid fricking idiot Gift- Button felt a surge of anger pass through him that was quickly quenched by a wave of sadness. The flowers felt heavy in his hand. He felt so drained, and tears pricked his eye. He felt freezing, yet unbearably hot at the same time. So much for a special day. Hours later, as the sun was setting, Button sat in the middle of Grian's barge, staring dejectedly at the flowers in his hand. His face was slightly red, and his cape was wrinkled from the way he was sitting. His sulking was interrupted by the removal of his tophat, which got his attention immediately. He glanced up to see a small, moustached child. "Hey, Button, fowwow me," he instructed, handing back Button's hat. And then he left. Just like that. Not another word. What? Having nothing better to do, the bot followed him curiously, wiping his eye and fixing his hat. Jrumbot led him back to his own shop, where he bowed, clearly trying to feign professionalism. "Right in hewe!" He giggled uncontrollably, though he was obviously trying to stop it by pressing his hand firmly over his mouth. More muffled giggles came out, and Button raised his eyebrows. He blinked. What was going on? Button walked into the shop, which had been extremely redecorated. It was rather dark, and in the middle sat a table. On it sat a vase with a couple of flowers in it, and it was surrounded by two chairs. One was occupied by Grumbot, grinning. "Not a bad setup, eh?" As Grumbot spoke, Button's heart fluttered again. What? But- what? He clutched the flowers in his hand tighter. "Are you going to have a seat?" Grumbot teased with a laugh. "I didn't do all this for you just to stand there." Button numbly sat down. "I-" "Happy Valentine's Day," Grumbot said with a grin. His smile was warm, and Button smiled as well. But he was still confused. "But earlier- you and Gift-" He stammered as he spoke, and his words came out a jumbled mess. Wow, he was so useless sometimes. Grumbot stared blankly for a moment before his mouth opened in a wide 'O'. "OH. Button, you didn't-" He laughed before recomposing himself and explaining. "Gift was helping me set this up." He lay a hand on Button's own as Button flushed a deep crimson. Oh. OH. The tophatted bot smiled, a huge smile that spread across his face. He handed Grumbot the flowers. "Happy Valentine's Day, Grumbot."
not me forgetting to post this on actual Valentine's Day also this is the first fluff oneshot thing I've written and that's concerning, being that I've been in the actual fandom for around 9 months now e
