Hey there! So, you might be wondering what this project is about. I’m making this because I’ve decided; from now on I will be deleting comments that are self deprecating. Doesn’t matter if it’s meant as a compliment, doesn’t matter if it has good intentions - it will be deleted. Why? Because there’s entirely too much self deprecation in the art community, in life - whatever. I’m not going to talk too much about why you shouldn’t self deprecate because there are already so many projects on it, so I’ll keep this short. When it’s used a compliment like “WOW YOUR ART IS AMAZING I AM AWFUL AT DRAWING I CANNOT MAKE A STICK FIGURE” it tends to make the artist uncomfortable. Saying “thanks!” would be like agreeing and saying “no you’re not” turns it into a yes no yes no argument. It also probably doesn’t feel too great to put yourself down all the time. I get it. I get that you feel insecure about your art and you wish you could draw as well as say, @Realises or whoever. But instead of saying “ill never be as good as you” maybe you can say “i love your art! Do you have any tips on how to improve as a beginner? I feel kind of stuck right now” and who knows, maybe you’ll get a reply with some advice! It’ll definitely make both you and the artist feel better :) There’s also an aspect that people talk about less, which is that it comes off as attention seeking. I know most people don’t intend to do this, which is why I’m pointing it out. It feels as if you’re trying to turn the conversation to yourself, but don’t want to look like it. It’s very unnecessary. Compliments can be left as “your art is really nice!” - there is no need to add in self deprecation. You can lift another artist up without bringing yourself down. Like I mentioned before, many people have made projects on this and it’s obviously not helping because it’s still happening. Comments like those aren’t the sort that I want to see on my profile or on my projects or on other artists profiles/projects. Don’t want me deleting your comment? Don’t self deprecate. Think while typing. This account is kind of dead and I don’t have a huge following so it probably won’t make a really big difference in the Scratch art community, but if I can get even one person to take self deprecation out of their comment before posting, or improve my tiny community by a little bit, then I’ll be happy. Anyways, if you’ve made it this far, thanks for reading and have a lovely day! Projects talking about self deprecation: (By ) (By who is very cool)
