Breakdown of the more detailed art process Disclaimer: I'm not a professional, I'm a kid playing around with an iPad. I don't know what I'm doing, I'm just pretending I do 1. Rough sketch. I tend to do this on paper, as I haven't found a sketching brush that I like yet. 2. Ink the sketch on procreate. This is generally what takes me the longest, and it's the most boring so yeah 3. Eyes. I was trying out a new style, and they looked terrifying from just the inking, so I went ahead and finished them. I recommend trying out new styles of eyes for different characters, and not just changing up the color 4. Base coloring. Nothing much to say here, except that I used the lesbian flag and varying shades of the colors to get the design 5. Hair. I have no clue how to shade hair, I was following @BluePlanet1's tutorial. Go check them out, they're a great artist who doesn't know I exist :) 6. Okay, facial shading. Here's where I kind of know how to do things. I start with cell shading, outlined in blue. Basically, I take a solid darker color, and I place it where there should be defined shadows. Below hair, behind the ear, below the neck, etc. That's the first step 7. Next I do airbrushing for the cheeks and nose and maybe some darker parts of the face. Be really careful with the blush, a lot of artists use too much red. The color I chose leans more orange than red, and I still feel like it was too bright. 8. Finally, highlights. I do them on the cheek and nose. For this, I use a harsher airbrush than before, so that it's more defined. 9. Just circling the parts where I did the same three techniques for the entire skin. Green is airbrushing, blue is cell-shading, and red is highlights 10. Just showing the shading without the circles. 11. Same sort of thing as 9, I don't know how to shade clothes tbh 12. Same sort of thing as 10 13. Adding a background. Used a lighter background to bring out the colors. And I'm done, ta-da!
